American Bar Association: Ben has taken an active role in the work of the American Bar Association’s Section of State and Local Government Law. He presently serves as the Section’s Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates, member of the Section's Executive Committee and Council, and Chair of the Section's International Committee. He served as the Section’s Chair in 2007-2008. From 2010 to 2013 he served as Chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Election Law, an active participant in its work since 1999. In 2014 he was appointed by the Section of International Law to serve as Co-Chair of the Task Force on International Election Law and serves as SIL's liaison to IMLA's International Committee, the World Jurist Association and the International Committee of the Section of State and Local Government Law. He is also a member of the ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section’s Government Liability Committee and Insurance Coverage Committee, the ABA Section of Litigation’s Governmental Liability Committee and Insurance Coverage Committee, and the Water Resources Committee of the ABA Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Law (SEER). His publications include the first and second edition of America Votes! A Guide to Modern Election Law and Voting Rights (ABA 2008, 2012) and scores of chapters, articles, manuals and monographs on governmental subjects within his field of expertise.
