American Bar Association: 

Ben is an active member of the American Bar Association and its premier section for government law, the Section of State and Local Government Law, serving as its Chair from 2007 to 2008 and a member of its Executive Committee and Council for over 19 years. He is a member of the Council of the ABA’s Central and Eastern European Law Initiative (CEELI) and served as a Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates from 2009 to 2019. He was elected to a three-year term on the ABA Board of Governors in August 2016, during which time he served on the Board’s Finance and Internal Operations Committee and was liaison to the Judicial Division’s Conference of Administrative Law Judiciary, the Standing Committee on Election Law and the Standing Committee on Lawyer Referral and Information Services.  From 2010 to 2013 he served as Chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Election Law, an active participant in its work since 1999. He serves as the Section of International Law’s liaison to IMLA's International Committee. He is a member of the American Law Institute and the William C. Keady Chapter of American Inns of Court (President 2015-19). He was editor and chapter author of the first, second, third and fourth editions of America Votes! Challenges to Modern Election Law and Voting Rights (ABA 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) and scores of chapters, articles, manuals and monographs on domestic and international election law, local government transparency, cybersecurity, and anti-corruption.
